Let me tell you a short story about my local congress ‘person’…

She’s been elected and has ‘served’ for multiple terms, but yet her service record entails: going to Michael Jackson’s funeral on the tax payer dime (or if not directly, her unnamed ‘sources that she has’ paid for it…), believing that Vietnam survived as two separate countries – there’s still a north and south, taking phone calls on her cell phone during a town hall and various other experiences involving some level of ignorance, shadiness, elitism and flat out craziness.

Shelia asked for an accounting of scholarship funds, and surprisingly – no response!

Let’s take a moment and remember that our nation is only as strong as the weakest voter, and folks, there are some weak individuals out there that continue to elect her. Do we really want her to be the face of Houston in Congress? Does she reflect how you want Texas to be seen?

The only way we get rid of Shelia is to elect someone else, I bet his values fit better with yours than hers do.

a date night burger

I’ve heard a good deal about Petrol Station, and I think it did relatively well in the burger bracket over at the Houston Press. My understanding is that it used to be mainly a coffee house that offered beer, but since has veered into the beer garden that offers coffee genre. Regardless of its roots, T and I were looking for a low key ‘out of the way’ place to do a quick date night and Petrol seemed to fit the bill. We pulled up and I wasn’t one bit surprised to see…an old gas station. It was full, but not ridiculously so and we were lucky to nab a parking spot out front. Walking in I immediately felt comfortable, I’m very into wood and dark intimate atmospheres right now and this place supplied both. There’s a giant chalkboard listing some of the beer choices and menus for the more extensive list. my gut runneth over

life has taken an odd turn of late. I agreed to traveling for work so it seems I'm living most of the week in a far away place and the short three days between in the good old H. The decision was made in on a high of emotion - desperate times call for desperate measures and all that. In retrospect, it was a gamble that I should not have taken. Perhaps it will lead to some new opportunities but for now, I'm not so sure. Regardless, it is doing a couple of other things - one, is the spike in airline miles and hotel points that I am accumulating... the other, is the change from barely eating out to basically eating out at every meal. This, in turn, means two more things: one, lots of new fun for the blog and two, lots of calories I'm going to have to struggle to keep off. After this experience is over, I may need to have a 'work out' blog to counteract the 'overeating' blog I'm currently embarking on. My first quick update in this new vein is going t

Christmas in March?

The Mr and I had the honor of attending the Aggie Christmas Party that was thrown at the end of March. It was held @ the Aquarium downtown and I was pleasantly surprised by just everything... the food was amazing (you can't beat bacon wrapped shrimp stuffed with crab stuffing and jalapenos), the decorations were fun (upside down Christmas trees and Lone Star bottles) and the band kept everyone hopping throughout the night. Even Clayton got in on the act and cut a bit of a rug late in the night. I just hope we get invited back next year!
