dog friendly 5ks

why is it so hard to find them?! We all have a huge love affair with our pets, why aren't there more opportunities out there to run with the furry guys. I'm thinking I need to add a page on here to keep a listing of any I come across. If you know of any in and around Houston, please email me or leave info in a comment section.

the start

Before I plunge off into the true purpose of this blog and to get a sense of what I’m about, I thought it was time to give a little background… I am constantly amazed by the state of this nation. I think the majority of my peers have been in a sort of stupor. We were raised to believe in God, mom and apple pie. The US was the greatest nation in the world and regardless of who was in office; I seriously doubt anyone had any worries that we wouldn’t remain that way long into the future. Our parents took part in various ways in what went on in the 70’s and while there was always something to protest or complain about, I don’t know how serious anyone took it. America was simply the best. It was never even a question in my mind. There were times I’m sure we were concerned: 9/11 shook everyone to their core and I remember being at college and being so proud to be an American. Everyone rallied around and came together the likes of which I could never have imagined. We suffered a great tragedy...

Tax Day Tea Parties

So yesterday marked the day when Americans are required to pay their yearly taxes to the gov’t. This money goes to support schools, our roadways and other public services (police force, firefighters, etc). While I agree that things I use, I should pay for… I have a larger problem with the current tax structure. We’ve all had the experience where something our hard earned money went to, didn’t pan out as expected but shouldn’t that be on things we make bad decisions on, gambles that don’t turn out as expected. I just don’t think getting nothing for something should be an option when it comes to my money. Take the police force for example, my personal experience with them has been limited (thank goodness). But a few months back we had our car broken into, within sight of the police station. We called and expected them to show up, there were finger prints everywhere so even if we didn’t get our items back at least that person could one day be caught. The police never showed. We waited for...

what's an 'afternoon'?

The older I get the more I begin to feel like afternoon is the forgotten time. Since I never get to be outside really in the afternoon anymore, I wonder what it’s like out there… unicorns, magic beans? I don’t even have a window, so that only helps the mystery- afternoon is only passed as a few numbers on my computer monitor that pass by with nary a variation from the other 8 or so hours I spend stuck at this folding table called my desk. I remember being so excited when 3pm would roll around, it signified the ‘end of the work day’ when you’re a kid and even though you’d spent what felt like the WHOLE day in class, you still had plenty of sun shine to explore, run around and basically make a nuisance of yourself. Now, 3pm is nothing more than another time to try to avoid the break room snacks and remain focused on some mundane task that is overly urgent. I bet the people outside in the early afternoon don’t give it a second thought to how precious those hours are- the window between lu...

Christmas in March?

Image
The Mr and I had the honor of attending the Aggie Christmas Party that was thrown at the end of March. It was held @ the Aquarium downtown and I was pleasantly surprised by just everything... the food was amazing (you can't beat bacon wrapped shrimp stuffed with crab stuffing and jalapenos), the decorations were fun (upside down Christmas trees and Lone Star bottles) and the band kept everyone hopping throughout the night. Even Clayton got in on the act and cut a bit of a rug late in the night. I just hope we get invited back next year!
