as election season this year has drawn to a close, i've been a whirlwind of emotion and a flurry of activity (sounds like i'm a combo of some neurotic weather patterns). i think everything took on monumental significance because i've finally reached my version of 'middle age.' don't laugh and never mind the actual number associated with my age, it's more of a state of mind - i'm finally far enough out of school that i don't feel like a struggling student constantly. i've made good progress on my career and life plans are beginning to feel more firm. carefree days of boredom and spontaneous plans are fewer and fewer between. with this jump has come a more serious attitude when it comes to the implications of things. i inherently know, the value of a dollar and just how long and how much it takes to earn it. i wonder about what the future will hold, tomorrow, next year and in 20 years. i have come to realize that we are known by our actions and...

Ah election time. Brings out the best in people, right? Hardly. Everyone has opinions and thank goodness we live in America where that’s not only accepted, it’s encouraged…or is it? I think these days we walk a fine line, it’s such a thin tight rope I’m certain it’s bound to break soon, if it hasn’t already. I know that I’m pretty strong in my opinions; they are based on my beliefs. The reality of this is that, if you have different beliefs you just may come to a different choice. Imagine that, right? I know that I’ll never change someone’s mind that has a different set of core values than me and to be frank, I don’t care. I chose my friends carefully, I wan t those that lift me up, make my life better and that I truly enjoy. The honest truth is that if you don’t think like me (at least a little bit) we’re probably not really good friends. Now that doesn’t mean I don’t respect others. Let me tell you a short story about my local congress ‘person’… She’s been elected and has ‘served’ for multiple terms, but yet her service record entails: going to Michael Jackson’s funeral on the tax payer dime (or if not directly, her unnamed ‘sources that she has’ paid for it…), believing that Vietnam survived as two separate countries – there’s still a north and south, taking phone calls on her cell phone during a town hall and various other experiences involving some level of ignorance, shadiness, elitism and flat out craziness. Things have been a little crazy as of late. For some reason grubbing on the next burger has just slipped my mind. (shocking, I know) Never fear- here’s a hodgepodge of randomness to keep you entertained. Eat THIS not THAT This site is just terrifying when you go through the numbers. I mean, 53 grams of fat in just the BURGER? Geez, talk about making me sad! And poor Chili’s, their #1 worst burger is really tasty (actually anything in avocado ranch is really tasty) but I’ll be avoiding it in the future. Unless it’s my last meal or something so I won’t have to regret it for very long. On one of those lazy days where nothing gets accomplished, other than switching from the bed to the couch, T and I stumbled across a food tv show ‘Insane Food Challenges’. So I think I’m normal. Or close to it at least – I have bills that I pay, student loans I have to keep up with…but then there’s all the fun stuff that I WANT to pay for. Trips, good food, fun outfits…the things that bring a smile to your face (vs. the sweat to your brow the bills coming close does…) But I’m realistic. I can’t run up expenses beyond what is required – things are uncertain in this nation so it’s best to keep things close to home and save, save, save. And even if it wasn’t uncertain in the broad sense, I’m young- who knows where things will be in the future – kids, a new home, a wrecked car and it makes sense to prepare for those things. So when I see things like this: Obamas fundraising spree costs 2M I just get a little riled up. I mean COME ON. I get it, he’s the president and we (the American public) must pay for his security and travel…or rather the 53% of us that DO pay taxes. But to go on a campaign trip for others, who also go against the majority views on things…...

it's a sad thing to finally come of the age where you have finally completed school (all 19+ years of it), gotten a job that you can be proud of and have started to slowly make a dent in all the debt that said 19 years of school has provided...only to realize how significant we as Americans can be taxed. reading my pay stub has given me a heart attack on a number of instances. it's not even that the percentage of the whole is so great... it has to do more with the fact that I've worked VERY hard for that money and in order to make sure everything I'm responsible for gets covered I would really appreciate the use of every cent of it. The worst is 'social security' tax...which the harsh reality is, I'll likely never see again. I know there are those out there that feel like taxes are the dues we have to pay to live in this great nation. my grandmother sent me this in an email... aside from the fact that my grandmother is now emailing like crazy (itself a weird thing), i think it's just another 'sign of the times' that even earlier generations are getting into politics in a big way. I know that over the course of their lifetimes things have changed greatly, and it has to be unsettling at times to see how far we've come (or fallen as the case may be). What's reassuring though is that they still feel like the best way to make a change is to get out and do something - share their values, make their voices heard and trust that there is still hope for America's future. Before I plunge off into the true purpose of this blog and to get a sense of what I’m about, I thought it was time to give a little background… I am constantly amazed by the state of this nation. I think the majority of my peers have been in a sort of stupor. We were raised to believe in God, mom and apple pie. The US was the greatest nation in the world and regardless of who was in office; I seriously doubt anyone had any worries that we wouldn’t remain that way long into the future. Our parents took part in various ways in what went on in the 70’s and while there was always something to protest or complain about, I don’t know how serious anyone took it. America was simply the best. It was never even a question in my mind. There were times I’m sure we were concerned: 9/11 shook everyone to their core and I remember being at college and being so proud to be an American. Everyone rallied around and came together the likes of which I could never have imagined. We suffered a great tragedy...
